Jamar believes in the power of literacy because it brings freedom to an individual’s social and emotional being. Jamar developed his passion for learning and literacy while volunteering for AmeriCorps. Soon after, he began working with Porter Leath’s Head Start program. This is when Jamar became inspired to obtain a bachelor’s degree in youth services at the University of Memphis. With a passion toward a growth mindset, he continued his education at Relay Graduate School of Education, where he earned a master's in elementary education. Jamar has taught in Memphis charter schools, as well as served as an elementary teacher and a literacy coach for other educators. Jamar is elated about the opportunity to team up with ALLMemphis as a program specialist. He hopes to change the lives of Memphians by developing and equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to develop lifelong learners into lifelong readers.
