With a deep belief in the transformative power of literacy, Amelia views reading and writing as pathways through which individuals can share their lived experiences and see themselves reflected in the stories of others. She believes literacy opens the door to education – and with education comes empowerment, opportunity, and a richer connection to the world around us.
Amelia holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and early childhood education, as well as a master’s degree in urban education from the Memphis Teacher Residency (MTR). Her professional background includes two years in early childhood education, supporting the development of foundational literacy skills in emergent readers. She then spent four years in elementary education, serving as an ILT Lead and mentoring student fellows for the MTR Literacy Camp. She also facilitated the Young Authors Club, a program designed to nurture students’ love of reading and writing through creating and sharing original stories and poetry.
At ALLMemphis, Amelia is eager to deepen her expertise in structured literacy and champion initiatives that strengthen classroom instruction. As a STEM enthusiast, she recognizes that literacy is deeply interdisciplinary and looks forward to supporting teachers in implementing comprehensive, connected literacy practices. She is excited to collaborate with educators across the community to help amplify strong, equitable literacy instruction for all students.
